NiMH - Nickel Metal Hydride Rechargeable Batteries
NiMH or Nickel Metal Hydride battery technology is more recent than NiCd, and most notably provides higher capacities while reducing environmental impact.
NiMH Advantages
- High capacities for demanding applications, e.g. digital cameras
- Can be used for up to 1000 charge/discharge cycles
- No "memory effect", allowing top-up and part-discharge without adverse effects
NiMH Disdvantages
- Overcharging can cause irreversible damage
- A self-discharge rate of 1%-3% per day means batteries should be charged shortly before use for best performance.
